4 Remarkably Helpful Ways Joe Biden Policies Impact Your Family

Not into politics but curious how the election affects your day to day life? The world is coming to terms with the idea that Joe Biden is likely the president elect. If you’ve made it to this page you are most certainly wondering how the recent election and the Joe Biden policies will affect you and your family. While no policy is concrete until it goes through the different layers of legislation, I have laid out Joey’s stance on the different policies that pertain to most households. With a Republican led Senate and Democrats losing seats in the House, it is unsure how much Biden can accomplish. However, I am hopeful that Republicans will be more cooperative now that the Reign of Terror is over.

There are 4 key policies Biden has addressed that have the potential to not only impact your family, but improve the quality of your lives. Keep reading to uncover the potential ways Joey could help out your family

Joe Biden Policies Affecting Families

1. Child Care Policies

Moms stand up! I feel like we, the moms, are never directly addressed. This is our moment. I gripe daily (rather weekly — when daycare payments leave my account) about the cost of child care. I do not qualify for assistance, even though as a single mom I NEED IT. Even with child support, what family can afford it!

A comprehensive dive into these policies can be found on CNBC.

In summary, Joe Biden wants to make it more affordable for families paying for care for young children. He will do this through a cost-lowering proposal that gives families with kids ages 0 to 5 the option of a tax credit or subsidy. Families that elect the tax credit can get up to $8,000 ($16,000 for two or more children) to offset the cost of child care for those under the age of 13. The credit covers up to 50% reimbursement of child care costs for families making less than $125,000 a year. Even families making between $125,000 and $400,000 would still receive a partial credit.

He also proposes free universal pre-k and extended after-school programs that you can read more about in the CNBC article.

2. Tax Cuts

Per Joe Biden’s campaign site, Biden will require the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share. He won’t ask anyone making less than $400,000 per year to pay a penny more in taxes. In fact, he will enact more than one-dozen middle class tax cuts that will finally give working families the financial support they deserve. However, many struggling families need support immediately, because (hello?!) we’re in the middle of a pandemic. This is why Biden is demanding that Trump provide emergency tax relief to middle class families as part of a new COVID-19 response package.

Biden plans to expand the Child Tax Credit to help families through the crisis. Biden understands the urgency of delivering immediate financial assistance to working families. As President, he will support a significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC) for the duration of the crisis. Biden’s CTC expansion will provide thousands of dollars of tax relief for middle-class households and help the most-hard pressed working families avoid poverty. Specifically, Joe Biden policies will increase the CTC to $3,000 per child for children ages 6 to 17 and $3,600 for children under 6. He will also make the CTC fully refundable so that hard-pressed families can access these resources quickly. And, he will allow families to receive monthly payments if they choose.

Another notable tax relief policy is the tax credits to help families buy their first homes and build wealth — up to $15,000. Building off of a temporary tax credit expanded as part of the Recovery Act, Biden’s tax credit will be permanent and advanceable, meaning that homebuyers receive the tax credit when they make the purchase instead of waiting to receive the assistance when they file taxes the following year.

3. Reduced Healthcare Costs

Joey is certainly no Bernie when it comes to healthcare costs, but Joe Biden policies are a starting point. As a long-term strategy (the true key) to ease the financial burden on working families, Biden is committed to offering specific tax cuts for major costs these families face.

Biden will offer tax credits that help working families afford health insurance. He boasts bold policies to protect and expand Obamacare. Biden will ensure that no family spends more than 8.5% of their income on health insurance. How? By expanding access to refundable health premium tax credits.

4. Protecting Black Lives

It’s no secret that Joe AND Kamala haven’t always been on the right side of issues pertaining to Black people. However, going forward, all we can do is ask that “if you knew better, you’d do better.” Now that they have both addressed their past discretions, we can begin to move forward with policies that move this country in a positive direction.

My heart broke when the story of Breonna Taylor came to light. Why? She is me. That exact scenario is something that could happen to me. Joe Biden has addressed reforming the use of no-knock warrant, writing that “Americans must feel safe when they are asleep in their own homes.”

As moms, we worry constantly when we see stories like Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown. While Biden has not addressed these cases, the conversation has ultimately been started and we can expect more from him than our current…situation.
