If I Relaunched My Blog in 2025: Mistakes Improved
I launched my first blog in 2018 with nothing but passion, a few Pinterest pins, and a whole lot of trial and error. And while I learned a lot, I also wasted time, burned myself out, and left money on the table. If I were starting from scratch in 2025, I’d do things very differently. I’ve accumulated a lot of blogging mistakes to avoid over the years.
Here’s what I’d do instead — especially if you’re a mom like me, balancing real life, real kids, and real dreams of making money from your content.

Everything I’d Do Differently From My 2018 Blog Launch

1. I’d Plan for Consistency, Not Perfection
In 2018, I thought every post had to be perfect before it was “worthy” of hitting publish. That mindset left me with a graveyard of drafts and no momentum.
In 2025 I’d build a content plan I can stick to.
Think 2 blog posts per week — not daily. I’d create recurring themes for each month and choose topics that serve my readers and my schedule.
I’d use a simple planner or Trello board, give myself 2-3 hours per week to batch, and let “done” be better than “perfect.” Because showing up is what grows blogs — not overthinking.
2. I’d Batch Everything — Especially When I’m in a Groove
Instead of writing one post, filming one TikTok, and editing one reel every day, I’d treat content like laundry: do it all at once, fold it later.
Batching = less stress, more results.
I’d block off one day a week for blog writing, one for filming short videos, and another for editing and scheduling. That rhythm allows for real rest and flexibility — which, as a mom, I need.
If I was pregnant or postpartum (which I am right now), I’d batch even more while I still had energy — and schedule it out ahead of time so I could rest without guilt.
3. I’d Monetize From the Beginning — No Guilt
Back in 2018, I thought I needed a huge audience or a fancy product to make money blogging. I was wrong. These days, there are easy ways to earn from day one, even with a small audience:
- Bluehost for affordable blog hosting + referral income
- Amazon Associates for all the items I already use
- Kit.co to organize and share my recs like a digital storefront
💡 If you’re just starting out, sign up for affiliate programs on day one. You’ll feel more confident sharing links and building content with intention instead of guessing.
4. I’d Use Social Media to Support the Blog — Not Mirror It
One of my biggest mistakes early on? Trying to make my Instagram or TikTok repeat what was already on my blog. That strategy was draining and didn’t help my growth.
In 2025, I’d keep social media blog-adjacent, not blog-identical.
That means using short videos or posts to highlight moments from a blog post, not the whole thing. For example:
- A TikTok showing “how my morning looks using these 3 Amazon finds” → links to a longer blog post with full details.
- An Instagram story about a cleaning hack → connects to a blog post roundup with links and printables.
Let social media be personality and the blog be depth.
5. I’d Wait to Add Products Until I’ve Built Trust
Another thing I rushed in 2018? Trying to sell something too soon.
Real talk: It’s tempting to launch a product before your blog has steady traffic. But just because you love it doesn’t mean your audience is ready for it.
In 2025, I’d wait. I’d spend the first few months focusing on:
- Affiliate income (easy, no upfront cost)
- Growing email subscribers
- Building consistent traffic
Then, once I saw what my readers actually needed, I’d create a product that solves that problem. It’s more sustainable, more profitable, and more aligned.
6. I’d Let Search + Social Guide My Topics
I used to write whatever I felt like and hope people searched for it.
In 2025? I’d use both Google and social media as keyword research tools.
Here’s how I’d do it:
- Use Pinterest to search what’s trending in my niche (titles, phrases, problems).
- Pay attention to TikTok comments and my own DMs — that’s real-time audience research.
- Use Google autosuggest and tools like Ubersuggest or even Pinterest Trends to find what people are already searching for.
Guessing is one of the biggest blogging mistakes to avoid. Instead of guessing, I’d reverse engineer: what are moms asking? What do they need help with? Then I’d create blog content that answers those questions — and sprinkle in affiliate links where it makes sense.
7. I Wouldn’t Pay for a Blogging Course
I started out self-taught in blogging back in 2018. However, by 2019, when I had not seen any profits, I signed up for a course that came with a Facebook group and direct access to the blogger giving the tips. I think if you’re not technologically savvy, these courses could be helpful. However, I had already surpassed the basics and the information on actual monetization was limited. Bottom line: those courses are for actual fish out of water, and with Google and AI, the information is all easily accessible.
The gist of what you need to see success is (in no particular order):
- Consistency (for audience growth)
- SEO knowledge/great plugins (for audience growth)
- An idea of types of brands to become an affiliate (monetization)
- Setup Google Analytics early (tracking for future collaborations)
- Email marketing (direct promotion to let your audience know you have new content)
💡Key: Don’t fall victim to the ‘create an e-book’ propaganda. Most people are over this era and look at it as a marketing scheme (it kinda is). An e-book is fine for a lead magnet or freebie, but having people pay for info that was freely available to you, is insane.

Final Thoughts: Blogging Mistakes to Avoid If You’re Starting Fresh in 2025…
You don’t need to go viral to succeed. You don’t need 10,000 followers to make money. And you definitely don’t need to do it all at once.
If I was relaunching today, I’d keep it simple and sustainable:
- ✅ Start with Bluehost for an easy blog setup
- ✅ Organize my gear + recs with Kit
- ✅ Share my daily favorites with Amazon links
- ✅ Batch content and use real data to decide what to post
- ✅ Let my blog be the home base, and social media be the sidekick
