Proven Natural Energy Boosters In A Remote Work Environment
I’ve been working remote since the pandemic and I love it but the burnout is real. Let’s be honest, working from home can be a blessing and a curse. No commute? Amazing. Pajamas all day? A must. But somewhere between the Zoom calls and fighting the urge to work in bed all day, your energy can dip fast. Coffee doesn’t do anything but disturb my stomach, and I’ve tried to give it so many chances as someone who struggles with fatigue from insomnia, MS, anemia, and now pregnancy. If you’re tired of reaching for that 3rd cup of coffee by 10 a.m., let’s talk about natural energy boosters that actually work (and don’t require leaving the house…unless it’s for a walk).
Here are some proven, practical ways to boost your energy and stay productive while working from home:

1. Take Walk Breaks (Yes, Even 5 Minutes Counts)
Movement = momentum. A quick walk around the block or even just pacing during a phone call gets your blood flowing, increases energy levels, improves mood and focus, and breaks that midday slump. If you can’t get outside, walk laps inside or do a few stairs. It still counts. I bought a walking pad that I admittedly don’t use, especially while I work because walking and typing is insane. One thing that got me to finally put it to use was moving it downstairs where I can watch a show and walk. If I had to do it over again, I’d get one with a hand rail for balance sake! But originally my desk was supposed to be the thing that kept me steady.
Pro tip: Schedule walk breaks into your calendar like meetings. You’re more likely to stick to it.
2. Soak Up Some Natural Sunlight
There’s a reason why people in sunlit offices are more productive—sunlight boosts serotonin, which improves mood and energy. And there’s a reason they’re reserved for the higher positions, unfortunately. But fortunately, you’re at home! Open your blinds, work near a window, or take your laptop outside if possible.
According to Harvard Health Publishing, the effectiveness of light therapy is approximately the same as antidepressant medications!
Even 10 minutes of sunlight in the morning can help regulate your circadian rhythm and fight that 3 p.m. fog.
3. Try the Pomodoro Method
Work in focused bursts (25 minutes on, 5 minutes off) to avoid burnout. These mini “sprints” train your brain to concentrate more efficiently and give you short, structured breaks to reset your energy. You can use it as needed as emails come in or on focused day to day tasks. There are free app or web timers and you can find more information on the technique here.
Bonus: You’ll get more done in less time and feel less drained by the end of the day.
4. Stretch Like You Mean It
Stretching is one of the best natural energy boosters on this list. You don’t need a full yoga session, just a few stretches every hour. Roll your neck, stretch your arms, or do a standing forward fold. It reduces tension, especially if you’re hunched over a desk or couch, and helps re-energize your body.
If you work from bed a lot like me, stretching is critical! Don’t just target your back, although I know it’s the most bothersome. Your hips may need to stretch as well especially if you are pregnant like me. Your increased movement from method 1 should help you feel less tense, but stretching is just a important, if not more.
Try this: Set a timer every hour as a “stretch check.” Future you will thank you.
5. Actually Get Dressed. Yes, Seriously.
I really wanted to start with this, but saved the best for last. It sounds small, but changing out of pajamas (even into a cozy but cute WFH outfit) can shift your whole mindset. It sends a signal to your brain that it’s “go time,” which increases confidence and motivation. Bonus points if your hair is done.
You don’t have to go full glam, just looking presentable can make you feel more alert and put-together. Try to do things longer term things that give you less daily touch points. This includes getting your lashes done so you wake up daily with lashes, protective styles you don’t have to refresh every morning, or even a simple manicure/full set.
**BONUS TIP**
Even keeping your space clean can be a natural energy booster. You know the bogged down, overwhelming feeling you get working in clutter and chaos. You can get the opposite feeling working in an open, clear environment. As you gain the energy, start to stay on top of the cleanliness of your home. Energy Doesn’t Always Come From a Cup
Working from home gives you flexibility, but your energy needs structure. Incorporating natural energy boosters into your routine makes it easier to stay focused, reduce burnout, and feel good about your day.
✨ You don’t need to overhaul your life to feel energized—just sprinkle these habits into your daily flow and watch the difference.
